EraseObjectErase an object

Guide

Offline photo editor

Because everything EraseObject does happens on your device, it does not need the internet to edit — only to fetch its own files the first time. Load them once and you can erase objects on a plane, in a field or behind a firewall.

Getting ready, once, with a connection

  1. Open the editor once. Visiting any page registers a small service worker that keeps the site's pages, scripts and workers in your browser, so they open without a network next time.
  2. Download the eraser. Either erase something once, or open the editor, press the AI button in the top bar and choose Download next to Fast Eraser. That is the eraser model (25.4 MB) plus the engine that runs it (13.6 MB on CPU, or 25.5 MB where your browser has WebGPU).
  3. Optionally, the extras. Smart Select adds 42.5 MB and People mode 24.7 MB. Download them from the same panel if you want them offline too.
  4. Look for “Ready offline”. The AI button shows it once the shell and the eraser are both stored.

Installing it as an app

In Chrome or Edge on a computer, use the install icon in the address bar (or the Install item in the browser menu). On Android, choose “Add to home screen” or “Install app” from the browser menu. On an iPhone or iPad, open the Share sheet in Safari and choose “Add to Home Screen”. The installed app opens in its own window and uses the same stored files, so it works offline in exactly the same way. On Android, an installed EraseObject also appears in the share sheet: share a photo to it from your gallery and it opens straight in the editor.

What works offline

  • Always, with nothing downloaded: opening photos, Brush, Lasso, Rectangle, Text, Wire, Blemish and Find spots, Shadow Lift, the transparent eraser, flat-fill text removal, the texture eraser, Clone and Heal, Find scratches and flyaways, the Ink tool and Rebuild paper, caption bands, the magic wand, Straighten, crop, rotate, adjustments and export.
  • Once the eraser is stored: the AI rebuild, at every quality setting.
  • Once their models are stored: Smart Select and People mode.

A feature whose model is not on the device says so instead of failing, and the texture eraser takes over for Erase. Nothing you do offline is queued to be sent later — there is nothing to send.

Where the files live, and how to delete them

Model files are kept in your browser's Cache Storage under this site's name, after their size and SHA-256 fingerprint are checked. They are not in your Downloads folder and other websites cannot read them. To remove them, open the AI panel in the editor: each model has a Remove button, and there is one to remove them all; the panel also shows how much storage the site is using. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes everything at once, including any projects you chose to save on the device.

Limits worth knowing

Offline editing uses the same memory limits as online editing: photos up to 24 megapixels at full resolution on a computer and 12 on iPhone and iPad, with a lighter working copy offered above that. Browsers may evict stored files from a site you have not visited for a long time, or when the device runs low on space; the AI panel will then show the eraser as not downloaded, and the next erase with a connection fetches it again.
